My son Andrew has cerebral palsy,
hydracephalus, and epilepsy due to oxygen deprivation at birth. He
is able to do some walking w/ the use of his gait trainer but relies
on his wheelchair to get around. This fall, Andrew will be riding
around in his new motorized wheelchair and he is very excited about
all the things he will be able to do now! He likes first grade most
of the time but prefers to socialize with his friends. He loves
music and to sing on his karaoke machine (he would love to be a
rock-n-roll singer!) and play his Nintendo Game cube. Andrew is a
talkative, funny, bright ( in spite of varied learning
disabilities), caring little boy with whom everyone falls in love.
He is often described as a '100 watt personality in a 40 watt body'
. He has an 11 yr old brother named Joel who has a mild form of c.p.
and a baby brother named Matthew with Down Syndrome. His mom thinks
she is a pretty lucky lady to be blessed with such special boys. Our
family is very grateful for the 'life' lessons Andrew teaches us
about overcoming challenges, seeing the bright-side of things and
putting other's needs first.
